Robinhood Plans U.S. Crypto Perpetual Futures…Up to 10x on Bitcoin and Ether

On September 29 local time, U.S. online brokerage Robinhood announced plans at its annual HOOD Summit 2026 in Houston to launch cryptoasset perpetual futures for U.S. customers. It plans to offer trading through its app to eligible U.S. customers in the coming months.

Perpetual futures are futures contracts with no expiry date, allowing positions to remain open as long as margin requirements are met. The lineup covers eight assets: bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), solana (SOL), XRP, dogecoin (DOGE), cardano (ADA), chainlink (LINK) and hyperliquid (HYPE). Customers will be able to take long positions when expecting prices to rise and short positions when expecting them to fall, with maximum leverage of 10x on bitcoin and ether and 3x on the other six assets.

The products will be offered by Robinhood Derivatives, a futures commission merchant (FCM) registered with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Trades will be executed on the perpetual-futures venue operated by cryptoasset exchange Bitstamp, which Robinhood acquired in June 2025. Bitstamp says the venue is regulated under the European Union’s Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II) and uses a single order book for retail customers and institutional market makers.

According to Robinhood’s U.S. product information, the trading fee through the end of 2026 will be 0.01% of notional value after leverage is applied. Separately from the trading fee, a funding payment intended to keep the contract price close to the spot price will be settled between holders of long and short positions every eight hours.

Robinhood also plans to offer stop-loss and take-profit orders, real-time liquidation-price displays and position-risk alerts. At the same event, it said it would pursue weekend trading in selected U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). It plans to introduce weekend trading in early 2027, subject to regulatory review.

In the United States, the path is widening for perpetual futures to be offered as supervised derivatives. Within that opening, Robinhood is seeking to connect its existing retail customer base with the Bitstamp venue it acquired. The brokerage app can expand the products it offers, while the exchange gains access to new order flow. The plan shows how a broader regulatory pathway can create a business opportunity to use an established customer base and trading infrastructure together.
